B.D.E.A. Adapted Publications Data BankIn 1995, the Institut National des Jeunes Aveugles was
placed, by its supervising ministry, in charge of the mission
to ensure the nationwide collection and distribution of
bibliographic data concerning adapted publication holdings.
Created in order to ensure the implementation of this mission,
the B.D.E.A. adapted publications data bank department
developed the C.C.E.A.
collective catalogue of adapted publications. In addition to technical management and national
coordination, the B.D.E.A. must also ensure data base
development, input and updates based on bibliographic data
transmitted by various specialized organizations in the
sector. In order to enable full access to adapted publications
offered by public libraries in France, the Ministry of Culture
was placed in charge of ensuring the collection of
bibliographic data concerning these holdings. With the 1997 installation of a new server at INJA, an
online server input system has been implemented in order to
enable direct entry of data onto the B.D.E.A. server via a
workstation set up at the B.P.I. (public information library at
the Georges Pompidou Center). Simultaneous inquiries in the C.C.E.A. and remote
catalogues will be possible via the Internet and the Z3950
standard. Access to sites specializing in adapted publications and the
consultation of other catalogues will be facilitated by the
links established in our list of
sites offering adapted publishing. To get in touch with your B.D.E.A. correspondent:
